Rev. Felix Carrion
Rev. Carrion accepted the position as Pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ on July 11, 2019.
Rev. Carrion also serves as the Director of Programming for the United Campus Ministry of Greater Houston (UCMGH) at the University of Houston. Founded in 1968. UCMGH is an ecumenical ministry sponsored by the Christian Church; the Presbyterian Church, USA, and the United Church of Christ.
In 2018 he served as a Family Strengthening Curriculum Interpreter for the YMCA in Houston. He was also a part of the team that taught this curriculum to High School students at Wisdom High School.
The Rev. Felix Carrion recently served as the Interim Minister of Hough’s Neck Congregational Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, during the years of 2013-2017. Throughout these years he also served as a consultant, preacher and keynoter to various organizations.
Throughout his calling Rev. Carrion has keynoted in numerous conferences and forums of the United Church of Christ and has served as guest preacher in many local churches throughout the country. His speaking, preaching, worship presenter, and lecturing gifts were hone in the Assemblies of God where his early call and leadership, as a teenage, were already affirmed and encouraged.
Born in New York City, he earned a B.A. degree (1982) in Biblical Studies from King’s College in Briarcliffe Manor, N.Y., and a Masters of Divinity degree (1986) from Andover Newton Theological School where he graduated valedictorian of his class. He also has studied in several seminars at Oxford (England) University and in Seminaries in Managua, Nicaragua and San Jose, Costa Rica.
He is married to Dannette Costas-Carrion and he has two sons: Lucas and Aaron.
Sandra joined the staff of St. John’s UCC in December 2011 after years of working in the church environment at Faith United Methodist Church in Richmond. Sandra and her family were first day founding members of Faith United Methodist and was the Director of Children’s Ministry. In 1995 she was the founding Chairman of the Board for Faith School for Young Children, the church sponsored preschool. She wore many hats at FSYC including that of Chairman, bookkeeper, financial manager,and Director. In 2011 she opened Ivy Kids ELC in the Lakemont/Katy area before moving to St. John’s UCC. Originally Sandra felt the call to become a teacher while in high school, but little did she know that God would call her into children’s ministry and not of the high school level, but of preschool age. Sandra became a Chaplain for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department in 2016 and enjoys riding with Patrol on a weekly basis and offering support to the department deputies as well as to the general public. Sandra and her husband (Wes), of 40 years live in the Pecan Grove area and have two children. Daughter Alicia is an attorney for the 1st Court of Appeals and son, Patrick is employed by Texas A&M. Sandra enjoys reading, scrapbooking, music, fostering local Rosenberg bottle baby kittens and gardening in her free time when not volunteering. Sandra’s most loved scripture-“Be still…and know that I am God.”
